Marine and Tottenham Hotspur FA Cup latest after government lockdown suspends non-elite sport

Marine have been given elite status to continue training ahead of their FA Cup third round tie with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Tottenham visit the Marine Travel Arena this weekend to contest what has been described as a 'magical' draw by the eighth-tier Crosby outfit.

But with Boris Johnson and the British government plunging the nation back into a country-wide lockdown on Monday, non-elite sport has been suspended with immediate effect.

Any football below National League North and South level is considered non-elite meaning the Northern Premier League Division One North West club would not be allowed to train as a team in normal circumstances.

Skelmersdale United of the North West Counties Football League were given permission to work together ahead of their first round clash with Harrogate Town in November because of the elite status of the FA Cup.

Marine planned to train tomorrow ahead of the visit of Tottenham and the session is expected to go ahead as planned.
