'Marina strikes again' - Chelsea fans go nuts as David Luiz looks set for Arsenal exit

It was one of the most surprising transfers of the 2019 summer transfer window.

When Brazilian centre-back David Luiz swapped Chelsea for Arsenal just prior to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign getting underway in a deal worth £8million it is fair to say that head were turned and eyebrows were raised.

It was one of the most surprising, unexpected transfers in recent years.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender had only signed a new two-year deal with the Blues back in May and it seemed apparent that his future lied at Stamford Bridge.

Less than three months later, though, he was sold to Arsenal, with the Blues receiving an £8million transfer fee for a player that they could have lost for free just a matter of weeks before.

Now, less than 12 months into his Arsenal career, Luiz is on the verge of exiting the Emirates Stadium, reports in the national media claim.

It is reported that Luiz put pen to paper on a two-year deal upon his arrival in North London last summer, but football.london understands that the central defender signed a 12-month contract with an option of a further year.

At the time of writing, that option has not be activated, meaning Luiz could leave the club within the next few months, leaving Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta short on options at centre-back.

However, whilst this situation is likely to present Arteta with a headache, some Chelsea supporters have seen the funny side of it and have quickly taken to social media to heap praise on the shoulders of Blues director Marina Granovskaia and poke fun at Arsenal.
