Mackenzie Dern will get her first crack at a UFC main event when she takes on Marina Rodriguez in October.
The top strawweight contenders Rodriguez (15-1-2 MMA, 4-1-2 UFC) and Dern (11-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) will meet in a potential title eliminator at UFC Fight Night on Oct. 9. The event does not have a location or venue.
MMA Junkie verified the news with a person close to the situation following an initial report from ESPN. The person requested anonymity because UFC has yet to make an official announcement.
Rodriguez is coming off a headlining victory over Michelle Waterson and will look to continue her push up the rankings against another top contender.
Dern, meanwhile, is riding a three-fight winning streak, including a first-round submission of Nina Nunes at UFC on ABC 2 in April.
The latest lineup for UFC Fight Night on Oct. 9 now includes:
