Marina Granovskaia told not to complete £25m Chelsea transfer deal for Achraf Hakimi alternative

Chelsea will have to look for alternatives at right-wing back this summer with Paris Saint-Germain closing in on a deal to sign Achraf Hakimi.

Reports over the weekend claimed that the Blues have ended their interest in the Morocco international as he is bound to link up with former Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino in Paris.

Hakimi has reportedly agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with the French giants, with only the transfer fee itself in need of ironing out.

So who can Chelsea turn to next as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster a squad that lifted the Champions League last season?

Well, as reported several weeks ago, the German is a big fan of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Adama Traore, meaning the Spaniard could be the perfect alternative to Hakimi.

However, Atalanta's Joakim Maehle is a name that has been discussed by some Chelsea supporters on Reddit.

The wing-back has impressed at Euro 2020 for Denmark, scoring his second goal of the tournament in Saturday's 4-0 thrashing of Wales at the last-16 stage.

As per the CIES Football Observatory, Maehle has an estimated transfer value of between €20m-€30m (£17m-£25m) meaning he would be a considerably cheaper alternative to Hakimi who could cost PSG in the region of £70m.

But some Blues fans have warned club director Marina Granovskaia about potentially pursuing a deal for Maehle and for good reason.

Amid concerns that it is not a good idea to buy players based on tournament performances, citing James Rodriguez as an example as he struggled at Real Madrid following a superb 2014 World Cup, not all supporters are keen on the idea of Maehle becoming a transfer target.

souljaxl said: "No, you should never buy a player off the back of an international tournament."

travtical said: "The James Rodriguez Principle."

RedGreenBoy said: "Juan Cuadrado, too."

SuperFrankLampard said: "Not just price inflation, even ability inflation.

"The sample size to judge from in international football isn't good enough."

SamACunningham said: "Give Livramento the backup spot to James, otherwise we're going to lose him. We don't need to buy someone for this position."
