Marina Granovskaia told Chelsea should ditch Coutinho interest and seal Kai Havertz transfer

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf is urging his former club to make a move for in-demand Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, insisting the Blues should prioritise a move for him instead of Philippe Coutinho.

Both Havertz and Coutinho have been closely linked with moves to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, with Blues head coach Frank Lampard aiming to bolster his squad ahead of next season, though when the 2020/21 campaign could kick-off remains anybody's guess because of the coronavirus pandemic.

But since the Bundesliga made its return last weekend following the coronavirus shutdown, the talk of Havertz potentially sealing a move to Chelsea in the next transfer window has soared, with Blues fans having been left very, very impressed by what they have seen from the midfielder, who has scored four goals in two matches since the campaign resumed.

Chelsea Q&A with Oliver Harbord

And it appears as though Chelsea are now being urged to sign Havertz instead of Barcelona midfielder Coutinho, who is currently out on loan at Bayern Munich.

Though Coutinho has rediscovered some of his true potential whilst in Germany this season, scoring nine times and claiming eight assists, Leboeuf, who spent five years of his career in West London, believes Havertz is the more lucrative choice.

When asked if he had been impressed by Havertz's recent performances, Leboeuf told ESPN: "Yes. I like his maturity on the field, he looks like someone who is 30 and knows exactly what he has to do and when he has to do it.

"The goal he scored was very clever, between the goalkeeper’s legs. He’s the master orchestrator of that team and I talked about him last week and I said that’s a player that I would hire for sure.

"When we were talking Chelsea about Coutinho, when you see that player [Havertz], he should be in the Premier League very soon.

"He should be because he’s a very, very talented player."

This season, Havertz, who turns 21 in just over two weeks time, has scored 14 goals and claimed eight assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.
