Joe Cole has sent a clear message to Chelsea’s board over where they need to improve this summer and why Frank Lampard deserves their backing.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice as Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea and win the FA Cup for a record 14th time.
Christian Pulisic had fired Chelsea ahead before Aubameyang equalised from the spot after Cesar Azpilicueta brought the forward down.
Gabon forward Aubameyang hit the winner in the second half before Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic was later sent off for two yellow card offences.
The Blues have already secured the services of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Germany international Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
While attacking-midfielder Kai Havertz thought to be the next arrival in West London, football.london understands.
And Cole believes it is vital that the Stamford Bridge club invest at the back end of the pitch this summer.
“100 percent for sure. The improvement has been there,” Cole told BT Sport when asked about Lampard’s first season in charge.
“If you would have said at the start of the season the squad this Chelsea side had with all the young players was going to finish fourth and get to an FA Cup final.
“It all went wrong for Chelsea today. Decisions and all that. They didn’t nearly get it done but they was fighting right to the end.
“If you would have said that, people wouldn’t have believed you, because you have Leicester, Wolves, Spurs and Man United, all these teams.
“The future is bright, the future's still bright, but there still needs to be recruitment and there still needs to be investment at the back end of the pitch.
“Frank is man to do that 100 percent no doubt because what he has done here has been fantastic.”
