Marina Granovskaia's first words after Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori signs new five-year deal

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has signed a new five-year contract, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2024.

The centre-back has been rewarded after establishing himself as one of Chelsea's most consistent players this season, and earning his first England cap in the process.

Tomori, who spent last season on loan at Derby and won the Rams' Player of the Season award, told Chelsea's official app: "It’s obviously a very proud moment for myself and my family.

"I’ve been at the club since I was seven years old so I don’t really know much else other than Chelsea.

"The club has been so good to me, looking after and developing me during that time into the player and the person I am today.

"It’s a dream come true to sign a new five-year contract. I’m really happy the club have shown this faith in me and I’m just excited to carry on."

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: "We are very happy to see another fantastic young player come through from our Academy into the senior team.

"Fikayo has been with us since he was seven years old and has contributed to many Chelsea successes at youth level.

"Having enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Derby last season, Fikayo had a strong start to this campaign and we are enjoying seeing him grow into a key player for us.

"We are delighted he has committed to the club for the coming years."

Lampard previously praised the 21-year-old for his mature performances and said it was an easy decision to put the defender into the team straight after returning from his loan spell.

"He’s definitely got personality. That grew last year at Derby. He became very popular in the dressing room, and popular with the fans for his performances.

"The progression is huge, but the main thing I saw in him was work ethic. He quietly goes about his business. He trains hard. Everything you ask him to do, he tries to do it and more.

"Physically he’s great, we know that. He’s one of those when you’re doing sprinting or running, or heavy running early season, you can see every day he’s nailed, he does the job.

"When you want to do a particular training session, something quite simple but which takes a bit of focus, he’s focused and ready to go.

"That has shown in his performances since he stepped into the team. I put trust him early in the season, and at the moment he’s really delivered. Long may that continue, because there is more to come from him."
