Marina Granovskaia plans £75m bid to seal transfer for Timo Werner's new partner at Chelsea

Chelsea are planning to launch a second raid on the Bundesliga as they look to try and seal the signing of highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, the Blues, who will resume their Premier League campaign in just over a week's time following the coronavirus shutdown, are desperate to add the Germany international to their armoury in a bid to strengthen themselves even further ahead of the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

This news comes less than a week after news emerged that Chelsea had significantly stepped up their interest in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. Football.london understands that the Blues are working tirelessly in the hope that they can activate the 24-year-old's £53million release clause before June 15, which is now less than a week away.

Though the Blues have already clinched the signing of Ajax midfield star Hakim Ziyech ahead of next season, sealing a deal for him back in February, and are moving closer to putting a deal in place to secure Werner's signature, it appears as though they are not quite satisfied with the work they have already done and are desperate to add Havertz's name to head coach Frank Lampard's squad.

The 20-year-old, according to the report, is a player that is high on Chelsea's wish list, though they will face stern competition from a whole host of other European clubs to land the attacking-midfielder's signature.

At this moment in time, the Bayer Leverkusen star, who has been in fine form since the Bundesliga returned last month, scoring five times in four matches, is valued at around £75million, meaning if Chelsea were to make a move for the youngster, who celebrates his 21st birthday later this week, it will not come cheaply.

Chelsea have already splashed out somewhere in the region of £38million to seal Ziyech's signature and are poised to spend over £50million on a deal to land Werner, meaning a move for Havertz could take their spending past £160million.

Though it is an astonishing amount of money, especially when you take into account the financial impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on football, Chelsea see it as an opportunity to bridge the gap on their Premier League rivals and make up for the ground they lost during their transfer ban last summer.

Speaking about Havertz's future recently, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said: "We don't know yet what will happen to Kai.

"We know that all the great clubs from Germany and Europe are after him and that he has the ability to play anywhere."

In total this season, Havertz, who would have been aiming to represent Germany at this summer's European Championships had they not been suspended because of the pandemic, has scored 15 goals and registered eight assists in all competitions.
