Marina Granovskaia is in talks to complete Chelsea's next summer transfer deal

Championship side West Bromwich Albion are locked in talks with Chelsea as they look to complete the signing of midfielder Trevoh Chalobah.

The 22-year-old, who spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at French club FC Lorient, has experienced playing in the Championship before, spending time on the books of both Huddersfield Town and Ipswich Town.

It is reported by the Express & Star that the Baggies, who are keen to add some fresh blood to their squad following relegation from the Premier League last term, are in talks with the Blues to sign the defensive-midfielder on a permanent basis.

Despite having three years remaining on his contract, Chalobah, after several seasons out on loan, is unlikely to ever make the grade at Stamford Bridge and cement himself in Thomas Tuchel's first-team plans, meaning a permanent move elsewhere could be the best next step for him to take in his career.

According to the report, Tuchel has placed Chalobah on the transfer list and made him available for a permanent exit, meaning the Baggies should not have an issue getting a deal over the line.

However, it is currently unknown whether or not the Blues will demand a fee to part with the former England Under-21 international, who made 30 appearances for Lorient last season.

Should the Baggies, who will be targeting promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt in the forthcoming campaign, get a deal over the line for Chalobah, it would represent a good piece of business for recently-appointed manager Valerien Ismael, who joined from Barnsley.

Chalobah is now at the stage in his career where he needs to find a permanent home and settle, in turn allowing him the opportunity to get into some sort of consistent rhythm, both on the pitch and off it.

Should a deal be completed, Chalobah's arrival at the Hawthorns, this would represent West Brom's second signing of the summer, following on from the arrival of Alex Mowatt from Barnsley.
