Marina Granovskaia in pole position to seal Kai Havertz transfer as Chelsea dealt Gilmour blow

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Saturday, July 11.

Blues only team in Havertz race

The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea are currently the only side willing to pay Kai Havertz's £90million release clause this summer.

That means the Blues have a free run at the Bayer Leverkusen attacker, despite interest from Real Madrid.

Havertz's signature would see Frank Lampard, the Chelsea head coach, continue to strengthen his attack ahead of next season, having already secured deals for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

The likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich have also been linked with Havertz but Chelsea's willingness to spend means they are set to win the race for the 21-year-old's signature.

Greenwood's form good for the Blues?

Could Mason Greenwood's impressive form for Manchester United be a benefit to Chelsea?

It seems a strange situation but it might prove to be the case, according to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

The former England defender turned Sky Sports pundit has questioned whether Manchester United really need to target Jadon Sancho this summer, considering how impressive Greenwood has been.

With the Blues also keen on Borussia Dortmund star Sancho, any fading in United's interest in the player would only be good news.

Gilmour injury blow confirmed

Lampard has confirmed that Scottish midfielder Billy Gilmour will miss the rest of the Premier League season with a knee injury.

The Blues midfielder has undergone surgery to fix the injury and Lampard has expressed his disappointment.

"He had an operation on his knee this morning so will be out for somewhere between three and four months, unfortunately," Lampard said.

"I'm very disappointed, Billy is. I spoke to him yesterday at length and given him support. He's a tough boy. It's hit him hard as a younger player who made a breakthrough in recent times."

The Blues boss also revealed some more bad news on the injury front.
