Marina Granovskaia has two secret weapons in bid to satisfy Kai Havertz and seal Chelsea deal

Chelsea are edging closer to a deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz.

The Blues have already secured the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech but their summer transfer plans show so sign of slowing down, with Havertz next on their hitlist.

football.london understands that the only obstacle left for Chelsea to negotiate is Havertz's fee, with the player himself understood to be keen on a move to west London.

Havertz has established himself as one of Europe's most exciting talents this season, but Leverkusen's failure to finish in the Bundesliga's top four and qualify for the Champions League proved to be a tipping point for the midfielder, who subsequently asked to leave.

Frank Lampard on impact of Champions League on transfers

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid had also shown an interest in Havertz but Chelsea are now in pole position to secure their third major signing of the summer, as boss Frank Lampard looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the title.

Havertz, whose current deal with Leverkusen expires in June 2022, has already been sold on Chelsea's vision under Lampard, and the Blues have the benefit of having two of the player's international colleagues at the club to add extra persuasion.

It is understood that Havertz has spoken to Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner, who trained with his new club for the first time this week having attended the win over Wolves, about a potential move.

Reports elsewhere have claimed that Havertz is keen to seal a deal in the next week -  before Leverkusen's Europa League match against Rangers.

As well as attacking reinforcements, Chelsea are also keen to strengthen at left-back and sign a new goalkeeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Leicester City's Ben Chilwell is thought to be Lampard's first choice target, whilst there is interest in Ajax's Andre Onana and Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak.
