Marina Granovskaia has completed Chelsea's perfect front three for 2020/21 thanks to Eden Hazard

Chelsea's summer rebuild has gathered pace with Timo Werner set to complete a move from RB Leipzig in the coming days.

Frank Lampard was desperate to add a quality striker to his squad after the failed attempts to land a forward in the January transfer window.

But football.london understands Chelsea are in pole position to close a deal for Werner, despite the Germany international being heavily linked with Liverpool.

The Blues are ready to activate the Germany striker's £53million release clause before it expires on June 15, and are in negotiations over personal terms, with a five-year deal expected to be offered.

Alan Smith breaks down Chelsea's move for Timo Werner and who they may look to next

Werner represents the profile of player the Chelsea head coach has been searching for, and will join Hakim Ziyech at Stamford Bridge next season.

The Blues announced a £33.4million deal to sign the Morocco international in February, and the playmaker will officially complete his move next month.

Both Ziyech and Werner - signed for a combined fee of £86.4million - are expected to form part of Chelsea's new-look attack for next season, with Pedro and Willian set to depart at the end of the campaign with their contracts in west London expiring.

Tammy Abraham will compete for a starting spot after an impressive debut season under Lampard - although there is also the possibility of Werner operating from the left flank, allowing the England striker to keep his role through the middle.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic will compete with Ziyech for a place on the flanks.

Despite the hefty outlay, Chelsea have effectively funded the signings from their sales last summer - the upcoming sale of Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid for £48.5million coupled with Eden Hazard's move to Real Madrid for an initial £89million fee (£137.5m).

Elsewhere in the side, football.london understands that Chelsea will turn their attention to strengthening at left back, where Leicester City's Ben Chilwell is the number one target.
