Marina Granovskaia has already secured Chelsea's perfect Matthijs de Ligt transfer alternative

The clearest lesson at Stamford Bridge since the transfer ban in February 2019 has been looking internally and having the trust in Cobham.

Chelsea's next generation have stars have silenced doubters, broken new ground and were vital parts of the club's Champions League success in 2020/21.

Tuesday night's dominant win over Juventus to secure qualification to the last 16 of Europe's elite competition and go top of the group was the spoonful of sugar on the medicine the London club needed two years ago.

Out of the many parts of the youth revolution started by Frank Lampard in 2019 you could pick out, it was one of the more recent success stories thats pertinent.

Trevoh Chalobah's opening goal to tear open Juventus in the 25th minute was the bright moment of another accomplished performance from the 22-year-old.

Chalobah had not kicked a ball for his parent club in competitive action before this season, sent out on three loans to Ipswich, Huddersfield and Lorient before returning to be included in Thomas Tuchel's pre-season training camp.

It was around this point rumours started to swirl of Chelsea's interest in Jules Kounde from Sevilla, reportedly agreeing on personal terms with the European Champions.

The move broke down in the final hours of deadline day and Kounde remained with Sevilla.

But Chalobah's composure and impressive cameos in pre-season had taken him into Tuchel's first team for the UEFA Super Cup clash with Villarreal – his first competitive appearance for Chelsea.

From there Chalobah has not looked back, starting and scoring in his Premier League debut only three days later.

Every time the defender has been called upon by Tuchel, he has performed to a high level. Barely looking fazed by the challenge of breaking into a Champions League winning defence.

Back in September when Chelsea travelled to Turin to face Juventus rumours swirled of the club's potential interest in highly-rated centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

Same age as Chalobah, there is a belief De Ligt could be on the move in the summer of 2022 where Chelsea may need a defensive reshuffle due to contract doubts over the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta, the link did not seem that far fetched.

But Chalobah's performance on the opposing side to De Ligt on Tuesday further proved why the Blues' don't always need to look elsewhere for solutions.

"It meant a lot. When I was a young kid I used to watch the Champions League here." Chalobah said after the massive win to BT Sport.

"To be involved and get a goal, it’s very emotional. Now it’s about consistency.

"I need to impress the manager and keep going. I tried to get as much power on it. That’s what I’ve done."

Tuchel's growing trust in Chalobah has only been vindicated over the last four days, starting the 3-0 win against Leicester on Saturday alongside the more experienced duo of Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger.

It spoke volumes Tuchel stuck with the trio for Tuesday, when he could have brought back the brilliant Andreas Christensen or reliable captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

The most defining image to illustrate the meteoric rise of Chalobah since August, sat alongside Marina Granovsakia before the international break as he put pen to paper on a new contract that keeps him in west London until 2026 probably is enough.

Chalobah is just one of many examples in the current squad to the present and future path to success.

A club of Chelsea's size and stature will always be competing for the world's most talented players, and by no means would Kounde or De Ligt be weak additions in coming years.

But the priceless value the production line of Cobham is currently providing to the first team squad simply cannot be underrated.

Trevoh Chalobah is the latest answer to a transfer question, and he likely won't be the last.
