Marina Granovskaia could be set to secure Chelsea a considerable cash injection this summer with former Blue Tariq Lamptey interesting Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Chelsea right-back progressed through the club’s youth system but eventually departed last January for Brighton and Hove Albion.
The deal was worth a reported £3m as his contract entered its final few months at the club.
Whilst the Blues were loathed to let one of their promising youngsters go for such a low fee having made three appearances for the first teamz, his path was blocked considerably by Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta so he was let go.
However, Chelsea could now be in for a considerable boost with Lamptey now being linked with a move to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are eyeing the right-back ahead of a potential summer switch and Brighton could potentially be asking for anything up to £50m - the same price that they could potentially be selling central defender Ben White to Arsenal for.
Even more positively, Chelsea reportedly inserted a sell-on clause in the deal that initially took Lamptey to Brighton so would be owed a portion of the fee should the right-back move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The specific amount owed to the Blues is unclear but the likelihood is that it would be a considerable fee whether that is calculated based on the profit made by Brighton upon the player or the standalone transfer.
From Chelsea’s perspective then, they will be hoping that a deal for one of their academy stars does indeed go through this summer as they line themselves up for a considerable boost to their transfer funds.
Lamptey has so far made 19 appearances for the Seagulls but impressed hugely with his all-round performances down the right flank.
