Marina Granovskaia can finally complete Chelsea deal for defender van Dijk described as 'great'

Chelsea may finally have the opportunity to land reported transfer target Niklas Sule this summer.

The Bayern Munich defender has been linked with the Blues for some time, but Thomas Tuchel has not needed defensive reinforcements since his arrival, much thanks to the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen hitting fine form.

But amid the expected departure of Fikayo Tomori, who has an option to buy in his AC Milan loan, the Blues might just look to sign another centre-back ahead of next season.

And that may lead them back to a player they have reportedly tracked for some time.

That's because, according to Bild, Bayern are now willing to listen to offers for Sule, whose contract runs out next summer, to avoid losing him for further down the line.

And there's also another huge boost in that it is reported Sule's preferred next destination is the Premier League.

Just how much Chelsea would need to pay to secure the 25-year-old's signature remains to be seen, but he is valued at £31.5million by Transfermarkt.

But that might just be worth it if Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk's comments are anything to go by, the Dutchman once saying: "Niklas Sule is a great defender. He doesn't play for Bayern without a reason.

"I've already had some nice battles with him."

Sule made 33 appearances across all competitions for Bayern this season as they secured yet another Bundesliga title.

The Germany international will have been thrilled to get so many games under his belt this term having missed 25 last term due to a serious knee injury.

Though, it may be his last campaign with Bayern, potentially becoming part of a centre-back exodus, after David Alaba agreed to join Real Madrid at the end of his contract, and with Jerome Boateng also expected to leave.
