Marina Granovskaia and Thomas Tuchel told the perfect player that can save Chelsea millions

David Alaba would be the perfect signing for Chelsea.

That is the view of former Blues defender Glen Johnson who has delivered his verdict on the Austria international set to become a free agent at the end of the season when his contract at Bayern Munich expires.

Last month it appeared that Chelsea had suffered a blow in their attempts to sign Alaba as reports in Spain, claimed the 28-year-old had reached an agreement with Real Madrid to join on a free transfer.

However, there has been no confirmation from either party and in a boost for the Blues, BILD, as cited by Inside Futbol, claims Alaba could reject and Real Madrid offer in order to make the move to west London.

And Johnson is of the opinion that his old club should pursue a deal.

Highlighting Alaba's ability to play in multiple positions, the former defender has explained why the Bayern Munich ace would be the perfect addition to Thomas Tuchel's squad.

"Chelsea would need Alaba the most. If they’re going to play with wing-backs he would be the ideal man because he’s an unbelievably good athlete and could play on the left of a back three or as a left wing-back," Johnson told bettingexpert.

"Alaba could fit at Liverpool, but as we’ve seen with big money defenders, City are the club that normally do that.

"If anybody needed him to slot into their formation right now that would be Chelsea.

"I don’t think he should be walking into a club where he’s the highest paid player. Because he’s out of contract I’m sure he’s trying to get a few big teams to come to the table and go to war over him.

"I think every manager thinks differently and has their views on players that they prefer to sign.

"I think Tuchel will want to bring some players in and I think his number one target will be a striker, just like every team."

Alaba is just one of several defenders being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

RB Leipzig duo Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate are reported targets for Tuchel and Chelsea transfer chief Marina Granovskaia.

However, given Alaba is a free agent signing him over Upamecano and Konate would save the Blues millions and perhaps allow Tuchel to spend big on a striker - amid links to Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland.
