Marina Granovskaia and Thomas Tuchel told how to fix contract issue as Chelsea face £63m dilemma

Chelsea have yet to reach agreements with either Andreas Christensen or Antonio Rudiger over the extension of their contracts at Stamford Bridge.

The pair are approaching the final months of their deals with the west London side and they'll become eligible to engage in pre-contractual talks with clubs in January ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

With time running out and January fast approaching, Chelsea may be forced into deciding which of the two players' contracts they want to prioritise.

Anita Abayomi spoke to football.london Chelsea correspondents Adam Newson and Scott Trotter live on the Carefree Chelsea show to delve into how the Blues should tackle the contract conundrum and who should make the cut.

Newson kickstarted the discussion by outlining how Christensen has flourished into the player Chelsea hoped he would, before explaining why the Blues should push harder to extend the Dane's stay before concentrating on Rudiger's deal.

"Christensen has developed into the player Chelsea really expected him to be when they signed him nearly nine years, ten years ago," he began.

"They all felt he had the potential to be this elite, ball-playing centre-back but it's taken him a bit longer than maybe it was expected to get there.

"There is no doubt that he has blossomed into this wonderful defender now and he can play two, maybe three positions in that back three - I think he's the one you push harder to keep out of him and Rudiger."

Newson then added how the Blues must also consider the financial implications of extending Rudiger's deal over Christensen's, before calming a few nerves.

"He is that bit younger so if you give him a big contract and two years down the line it works out that he's not necessarily in the first team anymore, you can still get a decent fee that you may not get for a 31-year-old Rudiger in this position," he said.

"There is an expectation at Chelsea, from what I understand, that it will get done eventually."
