Following the success of its first edition last year, this year's event consists mainly of workshops and masterclasses for students and young professionals to have the opportunity to learn from great marimba virtuosi.
The main artist of the festival is Katarzyna Mycka, a world-class soloist and performer who will make a comeback to perform at the festival. Recognised by the Polish Percussive Art Society as Ambassadress of Polish Percussion Art, she appears as a soloist at the most important marimba festivals as well as for solo parts with well-known orchestras in many parts of the world.
Also joining the festival will be other great Thai marimba artists, both conductors and musicians. They include Vanich Potavanich, Paopun Amnatham, Sujaree Prapinwong, Tanasit Siripanichwattana and Phetcharaphon Lapcharassangroj.
The highlights, however, will be two concerts on the weekend starting at 6pm. The first one, on Saturday, will be performed by students who participate in the festival as well as Paopun, Sujaree, Tanasit and Phetcharaphon.
Performing at the second concert, on Sunday, will be Katarzyna and Sujaree, accompanied by a string ensemble.
Marimba is one of the largest mallet percussion instruments, consisting of a set of wooden bars struck with yarn or rubber mallets to produce musical tones.
There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome to help blood-disease patients with financial difficulties under the Gift of Life Foundation.
