Marian Shved pays the price for Celtic absence as winger fails to make the cut for Ukraine

Marian Shved has been left out of Andriy Shevchenko's Ukraine squad and hasn't even made their standby list.

The 22-year-old Celtic winger was signed last season by Brendan Rodgers before being immediately loaned back to homeland club Karpaty Lviv.

He returned to Parkhead in the summer and made his Hoops debut in a 2-0 Champions League qualifier win in Estonia against Nomme Kalju - netting the second goal after coming off the bench.

Shved has one cap for Ukraine, which he won last November as a sub in a friendly against Turkey and was included in their last squad against Lithuania before being sent home with an ankle injury and hasn't featured in Celtic's matchday squads since.

And despite the injury not being serious, he's been dumped entirely by Ukraine boss Shevchenko for their Euro 2020 double-header against Portugal and Lithuania next month.

Ukraine named a 23-man squad and even included six players on the reserve list for the games, but Shved was axed entirely from the list.

Shved faces a battle for minutes in Glasgow with Mohamed Elyounoussi, James Forrest , Mikey Johnston and Lewis Morgan all ahead of him in the Parkhead pecking order.
