Mariah Carey has reflected on being 'forced' to reveal her pregnancy during an awkward interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
In 2008, the hitmaker appeared on The Ellen Show - amid rumours she was expecting a baby with ex Nick Cannon, who she had wed 7-months prior - and was probed by the talk show host about them starting a family.
Mariah, 50, did not want to discuss if she was expecting so Ellen decided that the best way to see if Mariah was genuinely pregnant was to make her drink alcohol in a proposed toast.
The award-winning musician, who suffered a miscarriage weeks after the interview, tried to protect herself at the time by saying it was too early to drink and joked that booze was calorific - to which Ellen whooped in delight that she was pregnant and the studio audience went wild.
And now, the star has spoken out on dealing with the "extremely uncomfortable" moment and admitted that is was hard to grapple with.
“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say,” the superstar has shared in a new interview with Vulture .
She continued: “And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath.”
Mariah added: “I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”
Carey went on to say that she had wished that “empathy” had “been implemented” and acknowledged she “didn’t enjoy that moment.”
A number of current and former employees of The Ellen Show have alleged that there was a "toxic work culture" behind the scenes of the show, with employees facing "racism, fear and intimidation" on set - leading to Warner Bros. has launching an internal investigation into the claims made.
In a memo obtained by Us Weekly on July 30, Ellen apologised to her employees on the show.
Ellen is said to have written: "On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be a place of happiness – no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect.
"Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case.
"And for that, I am sorry.
"Anyone who knows me knows it's the opposite of what I believe and what I hoped for our show."
