'Margrit Ferrier super spreader' is hit name suggestion for new council gritter

A new council gritter should be called  "Margrit Ferrier super spreader" - after a disgraced MP, a hilarious social media user insists.

Barry Martin came up with the title when his local paper the Hamilton Advertiser ran a Facebook contest to name the new South Lanarkshire Council vehicle.

And his suggestion has gained a following, proving to be the most popular suggestions so far.

The council has gained a reputation for it's witty gritter names, which include Gritter Thunberg and Lewis Caploughdi, the Rutherglen Reformer reports.

MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West Margaret Ferrier hit the headlines when she made an 800-mile round trip from Glasgow to London on public transport after testing positive for coronavirus.

Her behaviour was branded "indefensible" by Nicola Sturgeon at the time and the party whip withdrawn.

She will act as an independent MP when she makes her return to the Commons on Thursday with a question to Michael Gove.

And it is unlikely we'll be seeing Ferrier's name on the council gritter this winter, as Barry's suggestion has been ruled out because the contest is only open to school kids.
