SAN DIEGO _ Manuel Margot may yet develop into a super star. He may not. He'll at least have momentum as he puts a disappointing 2018 behind him.
Two days after his 24th birthday, Margot homered on the last day of a disappointing campaign, tripled in the 10th inning and dashed home for the winning run on a strikeout as the Padres' walked off a 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks in Sunday's season finale.
Margot's eighth homer gave the Padres a 1-0 lead in the second.
After Eric Hosmer tied the game in the ninth, Margot tripled into the right field alley to move the Padres 90 feet away from avoiding a 97th loss.
His speed made good on the threat when Francisco Mejia whiffed on Jake Barrett's third-strike pitch.
The ball skipped away from John Ryan Murphy. Margot wandered down the third base line as the D-backs catcher gave him a look before his throw to first.
Then he took off, sliding across the plate before the throw back to the plate.
