Margot Robbie says the moment on set when the widely published photos of Barbie were taken was “most humiliating” of her life.

The Australian actress says she and Ryan Gosling were “mortified” as hundreds of people looked at them while they were in full neon leotards.

Margot Robbie, 32, spoke about her experience filming for Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming film Barbie, where she portrays the well-known fashion doll alongside Gosling who plays Ken, Barbie’s boyfriend. The film is due to be released on July 21, 2023.

In late June, paparazzi photos of the co-stars were plastered all over the internet, across platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, as well as major newspapers. The set photos, captured by dozens of paparazzi in Los Angeles, were referred to as “mortifying” by Robbie during a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

“I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” Robbie said jokingly when Fallon showed a “Barbie” set photo to viewers. “We look like we’re like laughing and having fun, but we’re dying on the inside. Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.”

When asked if she ever thought the “Barbie” set photos would dominate internet buzz the way they did, Robbie responded, “No! I mean, I knew that we had some exteriors to shoot in LA. I knew once you were doing exteriors, you’re gonna get papped. There’s probably going to be a little crowd of people who are going to take notice because, you know, we stand out a little bit in those outfits. So I knew there was going to be a little bit of attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did.”

Robbie added: “It was like mad. It was like hundreds of people watching all time.”

The images showed Robbie and Gosling wearing neon yellow rollerblades and knee pads, with Robbie sporting a multicoloured unitard and Gosling in a gilet and shorts.
