Margot Robbie followed right-wing US women on secret Twitter account to prepare for Bombshell role

Margot Robbie has revealed the unusual way in which she prepared for her role as a Conservative news anchor in Bombshell.

In the Fox News drama, Robbie plays a fictional journalist called Kayla Pospisil who worships the broadcaster.

To better understand Kayla and her views, Robbie created an anonymous Twitter account and followed as many young, right-wing American women as she could find.

“I didn’t grow up watching Fox News, and I didn’t grow up in the same place as [Kayla],” she told Entertainment Weekly.

“I was struggling to understand that point of view for a while, and Twitter ended up being the most useful tool, because people are extremely vocal on Twitter.”

Robbie stars in the film alongside Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman who play real-life Fox News anchors Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson.

Bombshell explores the events surrounding the 2016 resignation of Fox News chairman Roger Ailes, played by John Lithgow, after sexual harassment allegations were made against him.

The production designer on the forthcoming film recently revealed he used photos from foot fetish websites to accurately recreated the Fox News offices.

Bombshell is released on 24 January 2020.
