Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig snubbed in Barbie film nominations

Fans are upset that Margot Robbie was not nominated for her role in “Barbie.”

The recently announced nominations for the 2024 Oscars have left many fans and cinephiles disappointed, as one notable absence on the list is Margot Robbie for her role in 'Barbie.' Despite Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera receiving nominations for their performances as Ken and Gloria, respectively, Robbie and director Greta Gerwig were overlooked by the Academy.

Social media platforms immediately lit up with fans expressing their frustration. One cinephile took to Twitter, saying, 'Can't stop thinking about the Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie snubs. I didn't even particularly want Robbie to be nominated, but to see Ryan and America get nominations and not the lead or the director? Just a baffling decision all around.'

Another netizen described the snub as 'so messed up,' while a third expressed being 'SHOCKED & disappointed' by Robbie's lack of nomination. Interestingly, some viewers pointed out the irony that a film with a feminist message like 'Barbie' failed to secure a female lead nod but celebrated the performance of the male supporting actor, Gosling.

“The Barbie Oscar snubs for best actress for Margot Robbie and best director for Greta Gerwig, while Ryan Gosling gets nominated for best supporting actor, are a different level of egregious and tone-deaf,' voiced another Twitter user. 'What. A. Time. #Oscars2024.'

As of now, neither Robbie nor Gerwig has commented publicly on the oversight, leaving fans curious about their reactions. Despite the disappointment in these particular nominations, 'Barbie' did receive a total of eight nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

However, it seems that 'Oppenheimer,' a box office competitor this summer, stole the spotlight with an impressive 13 nominations. These included nods for Best Picture, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt), and Best Director (Christopher Nolan). The film's success overshadowed the snubs faced by Robbie and Gerwig.

Moreover, fans have also noticed other surprising snubs in this year's nomination pool. Charles Melton's remarkable performance in 'May December' went unrecognized, as did Leonardo DiCaprio for his role in 'Killers of the Flower Moon.' Instead, it was Robert De Niro who secured a nomination for Martin Scorsese's latest masterpiece.

The 2024 Oscars have undoubtedly sparked conversations and debates among movie enthusiasts. While the Academy's decisions may disappoint some, it's important to recognize the incredible talent and achievements seen in this year's nominated films. The nominations reflect a diverse and competitive field, showcasing the exceptional work of many deserving artists and creatives.
