Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt lead stars at London’s Babylon Premiere

The cast of Babylon embraced Hollywood’s Golden Era as they stepped out for the UK premiere at Waterloo’s BFI Imax yesterday evening.

Leading lady Margot Robbie, who plays aspiring actress Nellie LaRoy in the 1920s-set film, certainly stole the show. The Australian actress opted for a billowing, backless Valentino gown, which came with a front cape in the house’s signature, voluptuous red.

Robbie is the recipient of endless internet speculation surrounding her Chanel ambassadorship, and fans delight when the actress experiments with less traditional outfits. While at Tuesday night’s Golden Globes she proved her loyalty wearing a custom pink dress by the French couturiers, last night she opted for drama. She even tried her arm at a cape flick, à la Lady Gaga in purple during London’s The House of Gucci premiere.

Robbie had doubled down on rouge, as she was spotted earlier in evening sporting a two-piece leather look from Bottega Veneta’s AW22 collection in an almost identical pillarbox red shade. She paired the oversized leather suit with brown, platform boots (also fresh off the Bottega runway) for an effortlessly cool off-duty look.

Her co-star Brad Pitt, who plays a silent film star Jack Conrad in the film, was dapper but by no means overdressed by Robbie’s side. Having leant into the ‘deep casual’ trend, wearing a sequence of bright coloured linen suits and skirts for the press tour of Bullet Train last summer, the actor returned to the classics, in a tailored, grey checked suit and grey shirt.

Li Jun Li (David M. Benett)

He was somewhat shown up by a very suave looking Diego Calva, however. The Mexican actor is Babylon’s breakout star, and looked resplendent in a velvet tuxedo and bow tie. Also turning heads from the cast was Li Jun Li, who was striking in an asymmetric hem, moss tulle frock from Gucci.

Millie Mackintosh (David M. Benett)

Other London scenesters made an effort for the evening. Former Made In Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh sported a huge, red corsage on her Magda Butrym suit, while presenter Clara Amfo channelled swinging 20s glamour in a sequin gown with flowing fringes as she hosted the carpet.
