Margarita Pracatan dead: The Clive James Show star dies, aged 89

TV star Margarita Pracatan has died at the age of 89, her family has confirmed.

The Cuban singer is best-known for her appearances on The Clive James Show in the 1990s.

Speaking to Sky News, Prakatan’s daughter, Maria Gorshin, confirmed she died on Tuesday from heart failure.

Describing her mother as a “powerhouse,” Gorshin said: “She had her own life force that was so electrifying. I think anyone who has ever met her feels it, and her loss just feels like a huge hollow.

Clive James Show: Pracatan soon won over fans with her appearances on the programme

“She was absolutely in love with life and everything about it. She was passionate about music and all things beautiful and exciting. She celebrated every single day of her life."

Pracatan, whose real surname was Figueroa, was born in Cuba and grew up in the US after her family moved there.

She began singing at a young age and James aired videos of her hits on his show, Saturday Night Clive. He then arranged for her to appear on his eponymously titled ITV programme.

Performer: Pracatan headlined her own tours (PA)

After finding fame thanks to the show, Pracatan toured the UK.

More recently, she appeared in an episode of The Real Housewives of New York City in 2019.
