Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff are reportedly calling it quits after five years together.
The actor, 31, and singer-producer, 42, have been married since 2023, with their relationship inspiring several pop culture moments in recent years — including Lana Del Rey’s song “Margaret” and a star-studded New Jersey wedding with guests including the likes of Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen.
People confirmed Wednesday that the couple is separating, with a source telling the outlet that the pair’s relationship is “rocky.” Another insider, however, insisted that the pair were “figuring things out.”
Antonoff is currently on tour with his band Bleachers, while Qualley prepares to film her upcoming horror remake, Possession. Representatives for Antonoff and Qualley did not immediately return The Independent’s request for comment.
Speculation about the couple’s relationship status began to fly in recent weeks as Qualley deleted pictures from their wedding from her Instagram and changed her handle. She was also notably missing from Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce last week, with Antonoff seen bringing his fashion designer sister, Rachel Antonoff, as his plus-one instead.
While fans speculated that Qualley was missing from the nuptials due to her upcoming shoot, The Substance star has also been pictured spending time with Outer Banks actor Drew Starkey. The two are set to co-star in upcoming horror movie King Snake, which finished filming last month in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Qualley and Antonoff, a Grammy-winning producer who is known for his longtime collaborations with Swift, Lorde and Lana Del Rey, met at a rooftop party in 2021 and were engaged the next year.
Before they tied the knot, Qualley opened up about their relationship in a Harper’s Bazaar cover story published in October 2023, saying at the time: “It’s really exciting now to be making a home and to have something to care for. I just want to do everything with Jack. One day I want kids.”
Their wedding in August 2023 was attended by celebrities like Cara DeLevingne, Channing Tatum, Zoë Kravitz, Channing Tatum and Qualley’s mother, Andie Macdowell.
Before the relationship, Qualley had been romantically linked with stars including Pete Davidson and Shia Labeouf.
Antonoff, on the other hand, dated Girls creator Lena Dunham from 2012 to 2018. Dunham, who is now married to musician Luis Felber, addressed her ex-boyfriend’s relationship with Qualley in her memoir, Famesick, which came out earlier this year.
In the epilogue of the book, Dunham said that she was upset when she first saw pictures of Qualley and Antonoff together in 2021 because she had wanted to be Qualley’s friend after working with her on Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood.
“He’d won the friend that I wanted, so when I wept like a child on the first afternoon I saw a paparazzi picture of them kissing on the Brooklyn Bridge, I knew that nobody would understand why I was so upset, that they’d assume it was because I was jealous of her, and that made me weep even harder,” she wrote.
