Margaret Keenan who became the first person in the world to be given the Pfizer jab has now received her spring booster.

Ms Keenan, 91, got her spring booster shot at University Hospital Coventry on Friday after receiving her first vaccine in December 2020.

The UK grandmother, originally from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, is among the first wave of those offered a fourth shot as part of the booster programme which was launched in England on March 21.

She now joins 95-year-old Devraj Jhalam - the first person to take up a spring booster shot - and more than1.5 million people who have received a fourth vaccine jab.

NHS England has sent approximately 2.5 million invites during the campaign to those aged 75 and over, adult care home residents and those who are immunosuppressed aged 12 and over.

Ms Keenan, known as Maggie, said taking up the vaccine had been the “best early birthday present” she could have after receiving her first Pfizer jab.

She said: “I feel so privileged to be the first person vaccinated against Covid-19

"It’s the best early birthday present I could wish for because it means I can finally look forward to spending time with my family and friends in the new year, after being on my own for most of the year.”

After receiving her jab, Ms Keenan implored the public to follow suit and take up a vaccine which has saved the lives of millions.

"My advice to anyone offered the vaccine is to take it. If I can have it at 90, then you can have it too," she added.

For the week ending April 17, 33.6 per cent of all those aged 75 and over have been vaccinated as part of the spring booster campaign in England - according to the UK Health Security Agency.

Some 35.8 per cent of the over 80s have received a fourth shot.
