Margaret Fulton dead: Celebrity cook dies aged 94

Margaret Fulton has died at the age of 94.

The celebrity cook, who was born in Scotland but became a household name in Australia, died surrounded by her devastated family.

A statement from her relatives said: "The family of Margaret Fulton is today mourning the loss of their loving, inspirational and treasured mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

"Margaret Fulton died peacefully this morning with her family close by."

Her granddaughter Kate Gibbs shared a sweet tribute to her grandmother on Instagram , captioning it: "Our hearts are too broken to respond to your messages right now, but we’re deeply grateful for your love and support."

Tributes to the famous cook, who revolutionised the way normal people made food at home, have been flooding in from around the world.

A tribute piece in the Canberra Times said: "Fulton, more than anyone else, introduced Australians to the culinary delights of the world and weaned them off the traditional meat and three veg.

"She was Australia's first celebrity chef, long before the species became a television staple."

Margaret is the holder of the prestigious Medal of the Order of Australia, which she was awarded in 1983, and was named as a bona fide Australian National Treasure.
