Napoli captain Marek Hamsik has completed his move to Dalian Yifang to bring an end to his 12-year spell with the club.

The 31-year-old has reportedly put pen to paper on a three-year deal worth €27 million, with the Chinese Super League outfit paying €20m (£17.7m) to secure his signature.

Hamsik joined Napoli in 2007 from Brescia and with 520 appearances and 121 goals, is the club's all-time record appearance maker and top scorer, surpassing club legend Diego Maradona's 115-goal haul in 2017.

However, he had made only 13 appearances under coach Carlo Ancelotti this season and had been in discussions about a move to the Far East for some time.

The Slovakia international posted an emotional message on Instagram, thanking the fans for their support and confirming his departure from the Partenopei.

Hamsik has only made 13 Serie A appearances under Carlo Ancelotti.

"First I have to apologise with you blue fans: I wanted, I hoped, I dreamed of saying goodbye embraced by your applause," Hamsik wrote.

"You have always supported and loved me unconditionally in beautiful or difficult moments: I will always be grateful for this.

"Napoli - I got it tattooed on my skin, just like the first victory in the Italian Cup after 25 years. It's impossible to forget that party. It's impossible to forget the moment when I broke Bruscolotti's record or when I beat Maradona's goal record.

"This makes me extremely proud. Here in Naples were born my three children, Neapolitans in all respects. I love you and I will love this city forever."

After announcing the deal, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said "the door will always be open for him here."

Hamsik will play under former Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster in China, with his new team-mates including Nicolas Gaitan and Yannick Ferreira Carrasco.
