Mare of Easttown: Will there be a second series of the Kate Winslet drama?

Mare of Easttown concluded on Sky Atlantic this week and everyone wants to know the same thing - will there be a second season of the HBO drama starring Kate Winslet?

Well, the creator and writer of the seven-parter, which saw Winslet as grieving, hard-nosed Delaware County cop Mare, has had his say.

Brad Ingelsby told The Hollywood Reporter: "It was written as a limited, and it ends — there’s no more mystery to be solved. Kate and I, if we could crack a story that we were really proud of and felt like it was a deserving second chapter in Mare’s journey, then maybe. I haven’t cracked that yet; I don’t know what that is, honestly.

"But if there was a world in which we were convinced, this is a continuation of the story that honors the first chapter and does things an audience will appreciate, then maybe. But as of right now, I have no idea what that could be."

It sounds promising and with Ingelsby's inspirations being Broadchurch, True Detective and his writing CV including The Way Back with Ben Affeck and Run All Night with Liam Neeson and Ed Harries, there are plenty character-rich stories left to tell.

Mare of Easttown was a hit for HBO & Sky Atlantic and is about Winslet's detective, who is solving murders and kidnappings in the town she grew up in, the deep-set relationships and secrets make for compelling drama.
