Mardi Gla to return this summer for second year of LGBT+ Pride event

Glasgow’s Pride Mardi Gla is to return to our street this summer for the second year of the LGBT+ event.

The parade will take place on Saturday July 11 with thousands expected to march through the city centre in support of LGBT+ rights.

In 2019, Police Scotland stated more than 7,000 people attended the parade, which commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, followed by a free education, entertainment and cultural event in the Strathclyde Union.

Mardi Gla organisers have pointed to the recent homophobic graffiti discovered on the entrance of Polo Lounge Nightclub reading "po**s out", saying it demonstrates the continuing importance of Pride events.

They have also pledged to continue to try to educate and change the opinions of those with homophobic views.

Daniel Syme of Mardi Gla said: "We are witnessing a rise in Homophobia in Glasgow which is deeply worrying. This is why Pride is so crucial to members of the LGBT+ community and all those that support us.

"We hope that people will get the 11th of July in their diary and prepare to join together to show that love is for everyone and once again demonstrate what a Proud City Glasgow is to the rest of the world."

Glasgow’s Pride Mardi Gla will announce more details of plans for 2020 throughout the spring and early summer.
