Marcus Thuram's verdict on his future as Tottenham 'open talks' with Harry Kane replacement

Tottenham face the possibility of losing Harry Kane in this summer’s transfer window, but have reportedly lined up a replacement should he leave.

Spurs are looking to keep their star striker, though, this summer and would rather sell other players in the current squad in order to raise transfer funds for future signings.

It’s quite simple to see why the club don’t want to part ways with their best player - no matter the reported fee involved - especially after yet another impressive season in the Premier League, winning the Golden Boot for the third time as well as his first playmaker award.

Even though Spurs have identified centre-back as a main priority in the transfer market, with Kane's exit from the club a possibility, they will need to begin preparations for a long-term forward replacement, even if that is just a shortlist of names.

And according to RMC Sport, they’ve already made huge strides in doing just that.

The report claims that 23-year-old French striker Marcus Thuram, son of former World Cup winner Lilian Thuram, is speaking with Spurs about a possible move to the Premier League.

Thuram joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2019 where he has a respectable goalscoring record, scoring 18 goals in 60 Bundesliga appearances, numbers that earned him a place in Didier Deschamps’ competitive France Euro 2020 squad.

And he hasn’t closed any doors on a potential move away from his current club either, as when asked about his future by reporters last month, he said: “For now, I’m focusing on the France team and the Euros.

“When I get out of the Euros, we’ll see what happens.”

Spurs fans will of course be hoping that if Thuram does sign it will be on the basis of playing alongside Kane rather than replacing him, but even if he does eventually leave, signing the Frenchman would still be a positive acquisition.
