Marcus Smart explains why Marcus Morris’ recent comments helped Boston

The Boston Celtics improved to 3-0 against the Philadelphia 76ers on the season with a 112-109 win on Tuesday. More importantly, Marcus Morris said the game was “very fun” just days after he said things weren’t fun, even when the Celtics win.

Not to mention he doubled down on the lack of fun on Monday.

Though Morris’ tactics were open to questioning, given the public nature to his approach, it appears something clicked. And if the results and Morris’ comments after Tuesday’s win weren’t enough, Marcus Smart explained how his veteran teammate made a positive impact.

“We know who are,” Smart told A. Sherrod Blakely on NBC Sports Boston‘s “Celtics Post Game Live.” “We know the potential that we have and when we can do. When we’re not playing to the top—our best, sometimes it takes somebody to say something to bring you back down.”

If Smart is reinforcing Morris’ point amongst teammates that could also be a part of why his message was received well, given Smart is a conduit between the veterans and young players.
