Marcus Rashford will today wear specially designed boots with a message giving kids “a moment to shine.”
Rashford, who has been made an MBE for his work to combat child poverty, is determined to carry on using his platform to maintain the fight, starting with England’s Nations League clash against Belgium.
England star Rashford, 22, will unveil the new-look Nike Mercurial boots which will later be donated to causes supporting his fight against child poverty, including including FareShare and Trussell Trust.
Rashford will wear the boots throughout October.
They will feature messages from 40 children at three schools: Button Lane in Wythenshawe (Rashford’s primary school), Passmores Academy in Harlow and Brunswick Community Primary School in Sheffield.
The Manchester United forward grew up idolising Muhammad Ali and even the laces feature some of his most inspirational messages.
Rashford said: "This project was an opportunity for me to give millions of children in the UK a platform to share their voice and inspire the next generation.
“If I hadn’t experienced what I experienced as a child, I couldn’t stand here today as a voice for change. There would be little power in the delivery of my message.
“I wanted to carry their voice with me, standing in Wembley Stadium with their messages written across my boots. I wanted to give them a moment to shine.
“Children need to believe that they can be anything they want to be, regardless of system failings and injustices.
"We must allow and encourage our children to dream because sometimes dreams are all they have.”
