Marcus Rashford teams up with FareShare as he offers hefty coronavirus donation

Marcus Rashford has made the single largest donation to charitable food organisation FareShare in the last 12 months as he looks to help amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Manchester United star is one of a number of footballers who are doing their bit during the difficult times.

But while many have placed donations to the NHS, Rashford has opted to help children who may feel the affects of the national school closures this Friday.

The 23-year-old has recently liased with several organisations as he looks to ensure the younger generation do not go hungry during this trying time.

He said in a post on his Instagram : "Across the UK there are over 32,000 schools. Tomorrow all of these will close. Many of the children attending these schools rely on free meals.

"So I've spent the last few days talking to organisations to understand how this deficit is going to be filled during the closures.

"I wanted to understand the scale of the problem and now we can reach vulnerable children. It's not just schools. It's community centres, breakfast clubs, etc that provide the only meal many kids get each day.

"No children should have to worry where their next meal is coming from.

"Fareshare distributes food to 11,000 different organisations across the UK, reaching almost 1m people a week. Today I'm partnering with them to rework how food is distributed during the closure, with the aim that no child is missed."

Fareshare distribute surplus food around the UK to ensure no one is left without a meal.

It is a hugely generous act by Rashford who will not be returning to action for over a month after the Premier League announced that fixtures will not resume until April 30 at the earliest.
