Marcus Rashford takes step closer to Manchester United return ahead of Leicester City fixture

Marcus Rashford has continued his recovery from injury on Monday as he aims to make his Manchester United return this coming weekend.

Rashford has yet to play a single minute of competitive football so far this season after undergoing the knife in the summer to finally fix a long-standing shoulder injury.

The operation was a success and the 23-year-old striker has, as of yet, suffered no setbacks in his recovery as he returned to full-contact training over a week ago on Friday, October 1.

There was yet more progress on the following Wednesday as Rashford returned to the pitch in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Blackburn Rovers, starting the game and scoring two goals.

The positive comeback has stood the England international in good stead for being available for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side when they travel to face Leicester City on Saturday following.

That continues to be the plan and Rashford was back in training again on Monday with his fellow teammates who aren't on international duty.

He took to Twitter after the session to post a photo of himself playing alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka and coach Michael Carrick, with the caption: "One step closer..." accompanied with love heart and football emojis.

Rashford hasn't played competitively since his summer ended on a sour note as he missed a penalty in England's heartbreaking shootout defeat in the Euro 2020 final to Italy.

The striker was suffering with the shoulder problem during the second half of last season but decided to put off having surgery in order to represent the Three Lions in the tournament.

After returning to Manchester he decided to fix the issue by having an operation and, after discussing timetables for the process with the club, finally had the surgery towards the end of July.

Speaking recently, Solskjaer said he was hopeful Rashford would be available again after the international break.

He said: “Marcus is fit, he's worked really hard, but he’s not had any contact [until now]. If his shoulder can take the contact now, he should be ready after the internationals."

With several of United's players away representing their countries, a host of the club's promising youngsters joined in with Rashford and his fellow senior stars to make up the numbers, with Alvaro Fernandez, Bjorn Hardley, Dillon Hoogewerf, Joe Hugill, Marc Jurado, Charlie McNeill, Charlie Savage and Charlie Wellens all taking part in the session.
