Marcus Rashford stars in Aldi Christmas advert as a radish - see the video here

Aldi has released its new Christmas advert - and it features footballer Marcus Rashford as a radish.

In the video, the Manchester United star, who has been made an MBE, lends his voice to the vegetable, who is wearing a tux.

The advert is a remake of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and follows the story of 'Ebanana Scrooge'.

Kevin the Carrot is back in action and reminds the anti-Christmas banana of the spirit of the season, before stopping to chat with 'Marcus Radishford', voiced by the England striker.

The footballer wishes Kevin a Merry Christmas, before the dynamic duo go on heartwarming adventure in the supermarket's festive offering.

Happily, old Ebanana sheds his old skin and promises to be better after realising his past mistakes.

He shows up on Christmas morning delighted with himself holding a Christmas pudding for Kevin’s crunchy family.

Acting veteran Jim Broadband, who narrates the story, says at the end: “The moral of the story? The answer you’ll find... for you to be happy, you need to be kind.”

The supermarket is working with Marcus to donate 1.8 million meals to families in need over Christmas.

The England forward, 24, successfully campaigned for the Government to provide free school meals to vulnerable children during lockdown.

Marcus was awarded an MBE by Prince William for his efforts after he successfully lobbied the Government into a U-turn over its free school meals policy, reports The Mirror.

The footballer, who has been open about his childhood spent relying on food banks, said he was delighted to be part of Aldi's campaign.

He said: "As a family, we relied on the local food bank to get our Christmas dinner.

"To this day, I remember queuing outside that building with mum; mum feeling embarrassed that she might be recognised.

"It is with that in mind that I’m delighted to lend my support to the Aldi campaign," he added.

"For many children in situations like mine growing up, there is very little expectation around this time of year; add the impact of the pandemic and the very least they deserve is a Christmas dinner."
