Marcus Rashford shows his class by giving bankrupt Wes Brown mates' rates on rented house

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has come to the aid of Wes Brown by offering the bankrupt former Red Devil 'mates' rates' on a rented house.

Brown was declared bankrupt by the High Court a fortnight ago after falling into a six-figure debt with HMRC. The 43-year-old spent 15 years in United's first-team after graduating from their academy in 1996, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League twice.

He retired from professional football in 2018 and is thought to have split from his wife Leanne Wassell, who starred on Real Housewives of Cheshire. But he is now receiving support from United stars past and present after falling on hard times.

According to the Daily Star, Rashford is playing his part by allowing Brown to stay in one of his luxury homes for a low renting price. The attacker is one of several to have rallied around Brown, with Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick also providing support.

Rashford is doing what he can to help support Brown during his current difficult times. It has been reported that a succession of failed property deals have led to his current money troubles.

A source told the Star: "It may seem like Wes was earning big money — to most people he was — but the trouble was he was also trying to keep up with the lifestyle of team-mates earning five or six times more than he was.

"Most of his money disappeared in bad property deals. He overpaid on the farm that Leanne lives in. He spent something like £6million or £7m to buy that. They have tried to sell it but haven’t managed to, even after lowering the price to £4.75m.

"Any money left is tied up in the farm. A previous property of theirs was once listed at £4.5m but took seven years to sell, finally going for £2.4million — almost half price."

Brown was declared bankrupt by the high court on April 12 after HMRC filed a bankruptcy petition against the former United star. He made more than 200 appearances for the Red Devils and once earned as much as £50,000 per week at Old Trafford.

He married Wassell in 2009 in a lavish ceremony at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire. Brown is due to play in a legends football match later this month which will be raising money for charities formed in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena attack.

Brown will be part of a legends team that will include fellow former England internationals Nicky Butt and Trevor Sinclair. The legends will be taking on a celebrities team, which will have the likes of boxing hero Ricky Hatton and comedian Jason Manford turning out for them.

The teams will face each other at National League side Oldham Athletic's Boundary Park stadium this weekend.
