Marcus Rashford sends VAR jibe after disallowed Manchester United goal vs Everton

Marcus Rashford described the decision to disallow his goal during Manchester United's 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday evening as 'questionable'.

After seeing team-mates Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo — who notched his 700th goal of his club career — turn the game on its head in the first-half, following Alex Iwobi's early opener for the home side.

Late on, Rashford thought he had wrapped up the points once. The England international beat Everton right-back Seamus Coleman to a loose ball, rounded Jordan Pickford and stroked the ball into the back of the empty net. Rashford raced away to celebrate what he thought was his sixth goal of the season in all competitions — only for VAR to intervene and rule it out for handball.

Although the decision to rule it out was in line with the laws of the game, it was an incredibly harsh one and incensed many United fans. Had Rashford passed the ball to a team-mate, and it had still been put into the back of the net, it would have counted, such is the confusion surrounding the handball rule.

But while Rashford was disappointed to be denied a third goal in his last two matches, he was relieved that it did not cost United all three points. Everton piled on the pressure late on but United held on.

On his Twitter page, Rashford posted: "+3 points on the road @ManUtd. VAR was questionable but thankfully it didn't impact the result."
