Marcus Rashford sends classy farewell message to Donny van de Beek after Everton transfer

Marcus Rashford has called on Donny van de Beek to show what he can do during his loan spell with Everton.

The Blues confirmed the signing of the Dutchman on Monday night following negotiations over the weekend.

The attacking midfielder emerged as one of Europe’s pre-eminent young footballers during Ajax’s high-achieving 2018/19 season, and reached double figures for goals in three straight seasons for his old club.

However, the Netherlands international has struggled to break into the first team at Manchester United since a £39m move from Ajax in the summer of 2020.

Van de Beek has made just two starts in the Premier League across the entirety of 2021.

And he's played 380 minutes across all competitions this season.

Reacting to the confirmation of the transfer on Twitter, Rashford wrote: “My brother. Go show them what you can do.”

Van de Beek admitted during an interview with Everton’s in-house media team that Frank Lampard was the driving force behind his move.

He said: "I had a really positive meeting with the new coach.

"We have the same ideas about football and he had a lot of influence on my decision.

"I played against him when I was at Ajax, and he was at Chelsea [as manager], so he knows me as a player. He thinks I have qualities that can help the team. I can learn a lot from him because he was a little bit in the same position - a midfield player who scored a lot of goals.

"He can help me a lot, so I think I'm in a good spot. I want to improve with Everton. There are always things that can be better and I work hard every day to do that."

Before he added: "I want to show my qualities, my strengths, to the people in England - but especially the fans from Everton."
