Marcus Rashford's Instagram exchange with Man Utd target James Maddison spotted by fans

Marcus Rashford and James Maddison engaged in an Instagram exchange after the Manchester United striker scored a stunning free-kick against Chelsea.

Rashford netted twice in the Carabao Cup clash, first from the penalty spot, before deciding the fourth-round tie with the goal of his career to date.

After the match the Red Devils forward posted a picture of himself celebrating scoring in front of the Chelsea fans inside Stamford Bridge.

Alongside it he wrote: "Class win. Class support. Class night. Hope you enjoyed your birthday Dwaine Maynard (Rashford's brother and agent)."

Maddison was among the many people who responded to the post, writing: "Nah that free-kick," alongside a stunned-face emoji.

Rashford replied: "Maddison [I've] been watching you mate."

A number of United fans noticed the exchange between the England international team-mates, with Maddison firmly on the Red Devils' radar ahead of January.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on Rashford's free-kick following Wednesday's win.

"I think he works too much on it," Solskjaer told MUTV. "I've always tried to get Marcus to score the simple tap-ins and be inside the box but he always scores great goals.

"He practices and today he got his reward.

"Great character and great mentality and I told him this morning that when we get a penalty you take it just make your mind up where you're going to put it, and he hit it as sweet as you like."
