Marcus Rashford's 'humility shone through' in post-match chat with a rival

Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale says Marcus Rashford's "humility shone through" during a post-match chat with the Manchester United striker.

Rashford and United take on the Blades at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Wednesday evening (8.15pm).

When the two sides met at Bramall Lane in December, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men eventually ran out 3-2 winners.

Rashford netted twice as the home side's struggles continued.

The England international has earned plaudits for his work on and off the pitch - emerging as a passionate and effective campaigner for social justice and child food poverty in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

And the 23-year-old made a lasting impact on Ramsdale at the end of last month's match.

“With the game against Man United in December, me and Marcus had a conversation at the end and spoke about my family and his and what he is doing for the country," the 22-year-old former Bournemouth stopper told the Yorkshire Pos t.

“To be honest, me and Marcus do not know each other too well, so for him to ask about my mum and dad was a lovely gesture and one you can take something from even though he is an opponent – and he scored two past me.

“His humility shone through.”

Rashford will not be looking to do Ramsdale any favours at Old Trafford, though, as United bid to return to the top of the table.

They were knocked off top spot by Manchester City following their 5-0 win at West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night.

Chris Wilder's Blades are rock bottom, with only five points - and one win - from their 19 league fixtures so far. They are 12 points adrift of safety.
