Marcus Rashford replies to question on what he thinks of Man City's Sergio Aguero decision

Marcus Rashford has given his verdict on Manchester City's decision to let Sergio Aguero leave at the expiry of his contract this summer.

The Argentine striker is the club's record scorer with 257 goals in 384 appearances and is set to depart after a glittering 10 seasons at the Etihad.

Aguero joined from Atletico Madrid for £35million in 2011 and fired City to four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five League Cups.

The 32-year-old will be remembered as one of the finest strikers in Premier League history but has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, managing just three goals in 14 appearances this campaign.

City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to sign a new No.9, with Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland at the top of his wish list.

But Rashford believes Aguero can still operate the highest level and, when asked for his verdict on the veteran's departure from City, simply replied: "He’s a great player."

The Manchester United ace previously opened up on his admiration for Aguero and described him as the Premier League's most complete striker.

Have Manchester City made the right decision by not extending Sergio Aguero's contract? Have your say in the comments.

"I think probably the most all-round centre-forward is Sergio Aguero," Rashford told GQ in 2019.

"Even on an off day, he can score you three or four goals. That, for me, is one trait of a centre-forward that I would take all day long.

"When you're not having a good game, but you're still scoring goals – that is a skill on its own."

Meanwhile, Aguero sent an emotional message to City fans on Monday evening and outlined his future plans.

"I will continue to give it my utmost for the rest of the season to win more titles and bring more joy to the fans," he wrote.

"Then, a new stage with new challenges will begin, and I am fully ready to face them with the same passion and professionalism that I have always dedicated to continue competing at the highest level."
