Marcus Rashford provides injury update after undergoing shoulder surgery

Marcus Rashford has confirmed that everything has gone according to plan after the Manchester United forward underwent surgery on his troublesome left shoulder.

The 23-year-old struggled with the issue in the last campaign, and also played through the pain barrier for England at Euro 2020.

Earlier this pre-season Rashford and his club discussed how the matter could be dealt with, and it was eventually decided that he would need to go under the knife in order to get it sorted once and for all.

This is expected to rule him out for around 12 weeks, meaning Rashford is likely to miss a large chunk of the start of United's Premier League and Champions League campaign.

The player had his operation on Friday morning, and has now returned home to begin his recovery.

And he took to social media on Tuesday afternoon to share a positive update with supporters.

“Thank you for all the well wishes,” he wrote. “I had my surgery on Friday morning and everything went very well. A little sore but other than that I’m feeling good. Hope you’re all having a great day!”

Rashford also shared a picture of himself relaxing and posing for the camera, with his shoulder heavily strapped up.

United themselves wrote on the club's official website: "In a sign of his immense character and willingness to help the team, Marcus played through the pain barrier for much of last season and still racked up 64 appearances for club and country.

"Rashford’s last match was with England in the Euro 2020 final and, after further assessments on his injury were made and following a much-deserved holiday, his surgery took place last week.

"Naturally, Rashford has missed all of United’s pre-season campaign so far and will not be involved in this weekend’s much-anticipated Premier League opener against Leeds at Old Trafford.

"It remains to be seen when Marcus will return to action and we wish him well in his recovery."

Rashford will be a big miss for United in the coming weeks, and will no doubt be desperate to return as soon as possible so he can play alongside his close friend and England teammate Jadon Sancho.

Sancho could be in line to make his competitive debut for the Red Devils this weekend when they take on Leeds, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side look to make the perfect start to their title bid.
