Marcus Rashford presented with dream exit route amid Man Utd struggles

Barcelona have reportedly enquired about Marcus Rashford as his future at Manchester United continues to be shrouded in uncertainty.

The 24-year-old has endured a troubled season with the Red Devils which culminated in recent reports suggesting he is considering his future at Old Trafford. The England international has struggled for form and game-time following a spell on the sidelines at the start of the season after shoulder surgery, and was left out of Gareth Southgate's side on Thursday.

Rashford expressed his disgruntlement in the wake of being dropped for United's humiliating 4-1 loss to fierce rivals Manchester City recently. It now appears that a move to Spain could be on the cards as Barcelona are rumoured to have joined the race for his services.

According to Manchester Evening News, the La Liga giants have wasted no time in contacting Rashford's representatives to express their interest in bringing the England star to the Nou Camp. A source close to the player has also claimed that the 'phone hasn't stopped ringing' ever since he declared his intention to reevaluate his position at United.

Despite Rashford's reported unhappiness at a perceived lack of minutes, it is believed the striker hopes to remain with United - his beloved boyhood club who nurtured him in their famed academy. There is even a school of thought Rashford's recent declaration was made with the intention of pressuring United into upping their efforts to tie him down to a new contract.

While that may well be the case, it hasn't stopped Barcelona from attempting to lure him away from Old Trafford by expressing their interest. And it wouldn't be the only occasion in which the Spanish side have considered Rashford.

Barcelona previously made contact with the player's camp prior to the United forward committing to a fresh four-year deal in July of 2019. The cash-strapped Catalan club aren't the only big name reportedly monitoring Rashford's situation either.

Paris Saint-Germain have found themselves linked with a move as they prepare for Kylian Mbappe 's increasingly inevitable departure to Real Madrid. Liverpool have also been mentioned, however, a prospective transfer to Anfield appears unlikely given the bitter rivalry between the two clubs and Rashford's strong ties to United.

The striker's current United deal expires at the end of next season and it remains to be seen what approach the club will take with regards to a renewal. Rashford burst on to the scene during the latter stages of the 2015-16 season and he subsequently established himself as a mainstay in United's side.

However, since his shoulder setback at the beginning of the season, he has found minutes increasingly hard to come by. Rashford has started just three of United's last 11 matches and has only contributed five goals in 26 appearances this campaign.

In recent weeks, he has found himself behind emerging star Anthony Elanga in Ralf Rangnick's pecking order, while Jadon Sancho's improved form has seen him hold down a spot on the left-wing - Rashford's preferred position. Sources at United reportedly claim the forward is training well and in good spirits, though admit he is failing to replicate his form on match-days.

Rashford struggled to make his mark from the bench in United's crushing Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, before being caught up in some controversy. Having been heckled by supporters following the loss, Rashford has since moved to deny he raised his middle finger in response.
