Marcus Rashford praises Manchester United unsung hero after Paris Saint-Germain victory

Marcus Rashford believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves credit for Manchester United's win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

United defied the odds as they emerged with all three points in the French capital, recording a 2-1 win in their opening Group H fixture on Tuesday night.

Solskjaer risked plenty of criticism ahead of the match as he made several bold decisions with his team selection: reverting to a three-at-the-back defensive system; starting Axel Tuanzebe, whose most recent appearance for the club came in 2019; and starting Fred and Scott McTominay ahead of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek in midfield.

Luke Shaw also began the game as a makeshift centre-back as Solskjaer switched to a more defensive set-up in order to combat PSG's attacking threat.

It proved to be a tactical masterclass from the United manager and match winner Rashford believes the Norwegian deserves some credit for another remarkable European victory.

"It is definitely a nice feeling," he told MUTV. "I thought we did well in stages, some of the decision making in the first-half and even in the second-half was a little bit poor in the final third. That is one thing we can definitely improve on.

"But I think the manager got it spot-on today. The system allowed us to express ourselves going forward and also trying to be tight defensively which I think we did as well as we could have.

"It was a big win but also it is the perfect position to be in because we've got a lot to build on and improve on as well."
