Marcus Rashford has explained that he needed to switch off from everything after a poor season for Manchester United.
Rashford looked like a shadow of his former self for large parts of his campaign in 2021/22. Scoring just five goals in the disastrous season that ended with United finishing on their lowest-ever Premier League points tally, things looked bleak for the forward's future at Old Trafford.
But this year his seven goals and three assists in 17 appearances have seen the boyhood United fan rediscover his form. Speaking to Danny Webber on United's official website, Rashford credited his post-season break for helping improve his performances.

He said: "It was time away from everything. I think physically I needed a rest, and I've probably needed a rest for a while, but mentally, just to have two weeks or whatever it was to just switch off – it's something that I probably don't do enough.
"Because we're obviously really busy and there's always something to look forward to, and something to work towards. I didn't know I needed it but when I've had it, when I've come back, and even towards the back end of [the] holidays, I just felt in a different headspace, to be honest."
Rashford's mindset, despite being linked with PSG in the summer, remains firmly on United and the forward outlined what his ambitions are this season. "I want to win the biggest trophies," he added.
"I've been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to play in finals for the club, win finals for the club, and have a few trophies under my name, but I want to get the big trophies – I want to get the Premier League, the Champions League. But we can't expect to just jump back to those heights.
"This season we've showed at times that we can compete with the best teams in the league, and then we've showed that there's no room to switch off. So we have to find a balance between the two and find consistency.
"I believe in the players and in the staff and in the manager. I just feel like if we perform as well as we can perform, then we don't have to worry about any other teams.
"If we just focus on ourselves and perform as best as we can every game, we'll win more games than we'll lose or draw. For me, that's my main focus."
