Marcus Rashford mural vandalised after England's Euro 2020 final defeat

Graffiti was scrawled across a mural of Marcus Rashford less than an hour after England's Euro 2020 final defeat.

The artwork, which says, "Take pride in knowing that your struggle will play the biggest role in your purpose", was daubed in blue paint on Sunday night.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all failed from the spot on Sunday night as England went down on penalties.

The trio’s social media pages were quickly flooded with racist comments, leading the Prime Minister and the FA to condemn the “disgusting behaviour”.

The portrait stands proud just off Copson Street in the centre of the south Manchester suburb on the wall of the Coffee House Café, Manchester Evening News explain.

Rashford lived close to the area with his family before moving to Wythenshawe.

The artwork was created by street artist Akse last November.

Organisers behind the project said that the mural was created to recognise the work the football star has done for disadvantaged families.

The mural was previously targeted by vandals in December, when it was daubed with white paint.
